This is a three year old girl who has suffered with eczema since she was a few months old.
The exact cause of eczema or dermatitis is unknown, but it is thought to be linked to an overactive response by the body’s immune system to an irritant. This response causes the symptoms of eczema. In addition, it is commonly found in families with a history of other allergies or asthma. Also medical thought is that defects in the skin barrier could allow moisture out and germs in.
Her mother was unable to pin point any irritants or reasons for flare- ups and making changes to the environment, laundry detergent, clothing or temperature made no difference. The eczema began before she was weaned, so food was not suspected to be a factor. In this little girl’s case, there was a genetic predisposition. Her mother had mild eczema as a child and her uncle and grandmother had asthma. There was also the possibility of a defect in the skin itself particularly as she had been diagnosed as having 3 different types of eczema.
The areas most affected were her back, upper chest and the backs of her legs. It was difficult to find a single remedy because she had more than one type of eczema and the symptoms varied. For instance, one type was ameliorated from and another type was aggravated from bathing.
She was started on petroleum 12c, which successfully healed her back and chest.
She then developed Molluscum contagiosum, caused by a pox virus, on the backs of her legs. This most frequently occurs in people with an immunodeficiency. In about 10% of cases, eczema develops around the lesions and in her case this is where the eczema became centered. They may occasionally be complicated by secondary bacterial infections. The viral infection is limited to a localized area on the topmost layer of the epidermis. Homeopathically this is interesting because we know the body heals from the inside out and now the skin problems were more on the outermost layer of the skin.
This image shows the improvement in the eczema after just 3 doses of Rhus Tox with 3 areas of moluscum.
A dose of Psorinum 200c was given a few days ago with this result. The action of the Psorinum is not yet complete. You can still see some redness and dryness in patches on the legs, however she is much better and a whole lot more comfortable.
